Police have confirmed Tithebarn Street and Old Hall Street in the city were cordoned off this morning
Several streets in Liverpool city centre have been placed on lockdown and a building evacuated amid reports of a bomb threat.
Initially, Merseyside Police closed Tithebarn Street at its junction with Old Hall Street and also at Exchange Street East and Bixteth Street.
Officers confirmed it was sparked by “the activation of a fire alarm” at Silkhouse Court, a 14-storey office block, which was evacuated at around 10.30am.
Other buildings nearby were reportedly evacuated, too.
The cordon was later extended on Tithebarn Street to Moorfields and to include the whole of Exchange Street over fears of a “glass blast”.
A full investigation into the circumstances is now under way and a crew from Merseyside Fire and Rescue is also at the scene.
The police helicopter is overhead and police dogs are at the scene.
