A one year old boy died and a girl, believed to be his twin sister, is in a critical condition after they were seriously injured in a hammer attack as police hunt for a suspect.

Officers were called to two babies injured in a flat after neighbours claim they heard the mother screaming for help late at night in Wilberforce Road near Finsbury Park.

After police arrived, another neighbour reported seeing two children being carried from the flat.

Mihai Menea, 29, who lives in the building described what another neighbour heard and saw last night.

He said: “A neighbour head the woman screaming in the street and went up to the room.

“I couldn’t imagine something like this happening in a million years.”

He believed the mother was Romanian and the father is Indian and worked as a night receptionist at The Pembury Hotel round the corner for seven years.

He confirmed he believed the children were twins, a boy and a girl.

Both toddlers had critical injuries and were taken to an east London hospital where the boy died in the early hours of Sunday morning.

A bomb blast has killed at least 7 in a busy shopping district.

The powerful blast left devastation across the shopping street in Lahore, Pakistan.

At least 7 people have been reported dead and 15 injured in the attack.

Armed police are on the scene following the explosion which destroyed cars and shattered windows of shops.

Pakistani officials have confirmed it was a bomb attack, AFP reports.

Security forces, suspecting the bomber was still alive, cordoned off the market in a residential neighbourhood, home to banks and coffee shops, and people were not being allowed to leave or enter.

A witness who works at a bank in the market said that his workplace was shaken by a “frightening” explosion.

“We left the building and saw that the motor-bikes parked outside were on fire and all the windows in the surrounding buildings were shattered,” the witness, Mohammad Khurram, said.

German police said on Wednesday that they had deployed forces to a school in the town of Menden near Dortmund, where a media report said there was an armed man.

The college, which has about 2,000 students and 100 teachers, went into lockdown at around 11.15am local time, after pupils and staff were told to lock classroom doors.

The press office of the district government Arnsberg later said that the alert was a false alarm after no gunman could be found.

‘Thank you to all forces who quickly responded,’ the government agency said in a tweet announcing that it had been a false alarm.

A police spokesman told broadcaster n-tv during the ongoing operation in Menden and that no one had been injured.

People were instructed to stay inside at a nearby nursery school as well, according to local reports.

Helicopters were seen circling the area, and armed police and ambulances were on the ground.
