The 89-year-old actress has played Dot Branning in the long-running soap for 32 years, however, she has no plans to retire from Walford any time soon as she doesn’t have enough savings.
“I can’t afford to retire. I never had the money to start a pension. And I didn’t start to make any real money until I was 58 – it’s not worth much now,” she told The Sun.
“I’ve always been afraid of being poor when I’m old. It’s a dreadful thing to be strapped for cash when you are elderly. It’s awful when you’re young, too, but you always have hope.”
In addition to fearing being strapped for cash, June has previously said she wants to carry on acting for as long as possible as she would be bored if she quit working.
