Firefighters are tackling a major blaze at a British school, with residents having reported hearing loud explosions.
10 fire engines were sent to The school in Selsey, near Chichester, West Sussex, after the fire broke out this morning.
Crews from neighbouring Hampshire were also dispatched to tackle the flames as stacks of thick, acrid smoke poured from the building.
West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said the ‘major’ fire – which started shortly before 2am is believed to have been deliberately ignited.
A spokesman said: “It is still under investigation, but we believe it was started deliberately.
“There is no reason to believe this was accidental, and that points towards a deliberate ignition, but we will not know for sure until the investigation is concluded.
“We were called just before 2am and initial crews were quick to get two more appliances down to the scene of the incident.
