Speeding driver said strong wind made him break speed limit

An emergency, needing the toilet, and not seeing the sign are all common excuses people give for breaking the speed limit.

But this one? We’ve not heard this one before.

A driver in Western Australia told police it was the wind’s fault after he was caught allegedly speeding almost 10mph over the limit (78mph in a 68mph zone) through a town in the outback.

On the citation shared on the Three Spring police’s Twitter account, officers recorded the motorist’s reason for speeding as ‘the wind was pushing me’.

They captioned the photo: ‘And excuse of the day goes to…’

‘That is pretty fast for a sailing boat with wheels,’ one Twitter user responded.
