A pensioner has been rushed to hospital after plunging from a balcony at John Lewis in Cheadle .
Emergency services were called to the Wilmslow Road store just before 4pm this afternoon.
Witnesses say the woman, thought to be in her 70s, fell two storeys from the upper floor.
A spokesman for the North West Ambulance Service said they sent an air ambulance, land ambulance and three hazardous area response teams to the scene.
She said: “We were called at 3.52pm to reports that someone had fallen at the John Lewis store in Cheadle.
“We received a number of calls about the incident saying a casualty had suffered major trauma.
“We sent a helicopter, ambulance and three hazardous area response teams and a person is being taken to Wythenshawe Hospital via land ambulance.”
GMP confirmed they too were called to John Lewis at around 4.10pm.
A spokesman added: “A woman had sustained spinal and hip injuries and was taken to hospital.
